AAA members get discounts at a lot of hotels. as previously suggested you can try booking online. check with the hotel to see if they have a slower season when they offer room rate discounts. if it's a chain of hotels, such as marriott brands (jw, renaissance, ritz carlton etc) check their website because many have programs you can sign up for and they will send you emails with discounts or specials for specific hotels for upcoming weekends. and also, ask around your family and friends to see if anyone works for a specific brand of hotels. almost everyone offers pretty fantastic discounts to their employees and many extend the same discount to immediate family members and a similar one to extended family and friends. (i know this because i, myself, work for a the marriott brand company)
